The Redskins won a nail-biter today, so as far as I’m concerned, all is right with the world. Looks like I went 2-2 in my fantasy leagues this week.
As this posting goes live, we will once again start running some ads on other webcomics. I doubt we’ll do it for longer than a week; we have to spend more money that I’d necessarily like to get the results I really, really want. At least one site on which we advertised before will probably get our stuff plastered all over ‘em this week, and that’s Girl Genius. We got LOADS of hits from our ad on their page. At the moment, my thinking is that we share two key aspects that make us appeal to their readers: we’re a fantasy comic, and we have a cartoony art style. While our fantasy is a far cry from theirs, and no one is going to mistake William Orr for Phil Foglio, I think those very broad similarities cause their readers to be willing to give us a look. (Honestly, a part of me feels weird about it, but we’re paying them for the privilege, and it’s not like reading Hunter Black precludes someone from reading Girl Genius. I just have some weird pride issues.)
I’ve got a few new projects whizzing around my brain, and some collaborators who have shown interest, so watch this space for more news.
Over on Planet Pantheon, dropping to one day a week probably has cost us some readers. I can live with that, because the artwork has taken a quantum leap, and I remain a believer in quality over quantity. I want to build a steadier readership there before I put money into advertising, as it already costs me more money than Hunter Black costs Will and me combined. If you’ve never checked it out, I have provided you with a link to the first page back there.
My lovely bride and I bought some crazy geek posters for what used to be Will’s bathroom, but is now our guest bathroom. I can’t believe she’s letting me put 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, M.C. Escher, and an inside scatological joke about one of our favorite shows up on our walls, but that’s why she now goes by Mrs. Peniston.
Anyway, all of this is just me wool-gathering. I need to put SOMETHING up here from time to time, and movie reviews sometimes feel too much like work.
